My worst date was with a guy I rescued from being cornered in a bar by a quite terrifying and ever-so-vaguely aggressive man. He literally had his back to a corner and he looked over at me and mouthed the words “help me”! I ran over to him and pretended that we were old friends and that I had been waiting for him on the other side of the bar. He was so grateful!
We went out to dinner a few nights later and he told me the saddest story about how he was living in a share house and didn’t talk to any of his roomies. The highlight of his week was to buy himself flowers and sit in his room and look at them all weekend. The stories went from bad to worse and by the end of the night I was so sad and exhausted I felt like crying.
I hope he found something to be happy about. Other than being completely depressing he was quite a nice guy, but I couldn’t take another night like that.
